THE ROLE
Commission the systems that move a project from construction to safe operation.
The Substation Commissioning Engineer supports the final technical stage of Wagwago Electric projects, checking that installed equipment performs against drawings, specifications and safety requirements before it is handed over to operations. The role works across engineering, construction and client-facing teams, with a strong focus on disciplined testing, clear documentation and safe energisation.

WHAT YOU WILL DO
Own the checks that make safe handover possible.
Commission safely.
Plan and execute commissioning checks for substations and related electrical systems before handover.
Test and document.
Record test results, punch-list items and commissioning evidence in a clear handover package.
Coordinate on site.
Work with project engineers, contractors and operations teams to resolve technical issues during energisation.
Protect the standard.
Escalate unsafe conditions, specification gaps or failed tests instead of accepting incomplete work.
WHAT YOU BRING
Technical judgement, site discipline and clear documentation.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or a closely related discipline.
- Practical exposure to substations, protection systems, switchgear or power-distribution equipment.
- Ability to read single-line diagrams, technical drawings, test sheets and commissioning procedures.
- Comfort working on active project sites with multiple technical teams and strict safety controls.
- Clear written reporting and communication in English; additional local-language capability is an advantage.
Working with Wagwago Electric
- Full-time role based in Addis Ababa with project-site travel as required.
- Work is split between engineering preparation, site commissioning and handover documentation.
- Structured onboarding with Wagwago Electric engineering and project teams.
- Exposure to live grid, transformer, switchgear and EPC delivery work across the business.
